The Key to Staying FIT: Compete



The key to staying Fit is to compete simple and plain. What I mean when I say compete is simply giving yourself challenges to complete. Now there are levels to compete, so let’s go through them and by the end you will see the case i’m trying to make.

Level One: Compete to become a better You!

When starting anything in life especially beginning the journey of fitness, its hard to take the first step. Getting up and taking that first step took effort that maybe you didn’t have some time ago. With that step you decided to become action driven. You decided to accomplish your goal. You decided to become a better you. Now, becoming a better you often times is a fight. You have have a to overcome the old you to become the new you. You have to compete to win. Once you have been working to get fit you will come to understand the relationship between fitness and becoming successful. I’m sure that becoming FIT shares similarities to what a person may do to become successful. If you stay on the path of fitness long enough not only will you succeed in that, but you will also succeed in life.

Level Two: It’s all about the next Challenge!

Now that your moving and grooving getting in shape and can do more, now you need a challenge. Without thinking about working harder, a challenge can help you take your fitness to the next level. If your working to lose weight a challenge can help you increase your effort and burn more calories along the way. A challenge helps reinvigorate your spirit to try something new. With your new found fitness, a challenge will help you stay FIT because your continuing to renew your commitment to train and stay healthy. Here are some challenges you can perform and a natural progression of going from the easiest challenge to the more difficult ones.

  • Steps per day from 6,000 to 8,000, to 10,000 and more.

  • Increasing your amount of reps and sets when strength training.

  • Extending your play time with the kids playing catch, going for walks, or playing a game like tag at the park.

  • Go on a bike ride.

  • Go jogging in the effort to become a runner.

  • Go on a hike.

  • Playing a recreational sport like soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc.

  • Sign up for a 5k, 10k, etc.

  • Sign up for a spartan race, or a rugged maniac.

  • And more..


Level Three: You are what you Eat

The final level is the most important step to competing to stay FIT and that’s simply breaking bad habits when it comes to your diet. It’s a constant struggle to improve your eating habits especially when you’re had those habits for a long time. When you wake up in the morning hold yourself accountable to what you eat. Soon you will feel better because you’re overcome those habits. The next challenge is to reward yourself by eating healthy and not rewarding yourself with the bad foods that help you become unfit in the first place.

Remember to compete everyday to stay FIT. I know it may seem like a hassle in the beginning, but you never know you may soon embrace the challenge and have fun competing.
